The Maryland Thoroughbred Hall of Fame’s newest inductees are European champion El Gran Senor and the brilliant filly Caesar’s Wish. The selections were made by a committee of Maryland racing industry members coordinated by the Maryland Horse Breeders Association (MHBA) and Maryland Racing Media Association (MRMA). Read more 

A celebration to recognize this year’s class of inductees will take place at Laurel Park on Maryland Pride Day on Saturday, Aug. 18.

2019 MHBA Board of Director election results

The Maryland Horse Breeders Association membership has selected three incumbent members, a former board member and a 2018 presidential appointee to the 2019 Board of Directors, as announced June 13. Dictated by MHBA bylaws, the annually held election fills five open seats on the board. Those elected this year will serve for the next three years. Incumbents Louis Merryman, Sabrina Moore and James B. Steele Jr. join Richard Blue Jr., who last served on the board in 2017, and Michael F. Horning

Maryland-breds running on Belmont Stakes Day

The Belmont Stakes Racing Festival, which takes place on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8 at Belmont Park, features 18 stakes races, including eight Grade 1s. Two Maryland-breds, multiple stakes winner Alwaysmining and stakes winner Dirty, will compete in two of the stakes on June 8.

Michael Stidham to judge 2019 MHBA Yearling Show

Michael Stidham, whose large and successful training operation has expanded into the Mid-Atlantic region in recent years, will judge the 85th annual Maryland Horse Breeders Association Yearling Show. Open to all yearlings eligible for Maryland-bred registration, the show will be held at the Maryland State Fairgrounds’ Horse Show Ring in Timonium on Sunday, June 30. Entries close June 1.
