The world’s largest competition for recently retired racehorses will take place this weekend in Lexington, Ky, when the Kentucky Horse Park plays host to the Thoroughbred Makeover and National Symposium. The event is presented by the Thoroughbred Charities of America.

Among the hundreds of entries at this year’s event are nine Maryland-breds. They’ll compete in a variety of disciplines from October 12-15.

Mavilus upsets Conniver

Thanks to a perfectly-timed ride by Laurel Park’s leading rider, Jaime Rodriguez, Mavilus mowed down her competition late and won the Conniver Stakes for Maryland-bred or Maryland-sired fillies and mares at Laurel Park on Saturday, March 18 in a 25-1 upset.
