A Maclean’s Music colt out of the winning Malibu Moon mare Make Amends led the Maryland-bred contingent at this year’s Keeneland September Yearling sale in Lexington, Ky., selling for $500,000.
The colt was bred by Country Life Farm and Make Amends LLC and was purchased by Richard Baltas, acting as agent for Calvin Nguyen and Joey Tran. He was consigned by Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services LLC, Agent III. He’s the second foal out of Make Amends; the other, 3-year-old filly Blame Catalaya (by Blame), has won three times from nine starts for earnings of $71,030. Make Amends won three times in 10 career races and earned $114,048. She was purchased by Country Life Farm for $82,000 at the 2021 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale carrying the Maclean’s Music colt. Now 9, she has since produced a colt by Yaupon, foaled on Feb. 8 of this year, and was bred back to Mandaloun.
A total of 29 Maryland-breds were offered at this year’s sale, which ran from Sept. 11 to Sept. 23, with 21 selling (one post-sale) for a total of $1,714,000. The average sale price was $81,619, with a median of $40,000.
