Mr. Fine Threads battled through challengers on his way to winning the 123rd running of the $50,000 Grand National Steeplechase at three and a quarter miles over timber on Saturday, April 18 in Butler.
Trained by Joe Davies for Armata Stables, Mr. Fine Threads was ridden by 22-year-old Teddy Davies, a week after the young jockey was disqualified from a victory at My Lady's Manor. The pair rated well early and ended up on the lead after avoiding a dangerous traffic jam when Uco Valley (Ire) and early leader Storm Team collided approaching the 11th fence, losing both riders, and Huyana was forced off course and pulled up.

With the field now reduced to four runners, Mr. Fine Threads never waived his advantage, repelling Shootist to win by three lengths, with Master Seville a distant third. Mr. Fine Threads stopped the clock in 6:30 flat over the firm course.
Making his first sanctioned start since getting his first stakes win in the $35,000 Willowdale Steeplechase last May, Mr. Fine Threads has won four of seven timber races since 2024, including allowances at the Grand National (2024) and My Lady's Manor (2025).
Not debuting until 2019 as a 6-year-old over hurdles at the Willowdale meet, Mr. Fine Threads made his timber debut in October 2020 at Middleburg, finishing third of 12. His first official win came at Genesee Valley in October 2023; he had romped home in a November 2022 maiden timber in Unionville but was disqualified for a positive drug test.
He has five wins, three seconds and two thirds from 17 starts, all over fences, with a bankroll of $98,150.
The 13-year-old son of Sightseeing and the winning Wayne County (Ire) mare Seven Counties was bred by William R. Harris and is one of four winners from five starters for his dam. His second dam, Seven Steps (by Thirty Eight Paces), is a full-sister to Thirty Eight Steps, the latter dam of graded stakes winner Sweet Goodbye and stakes winners Five Steps, Deer Run, and Norstep.
In two attempts at the $100,000 Maryland Hunt Cup, Mr. Fine Threads fell early in 2024 and late in 2025. Looking for his third stakes victory in a row, he is entered in this year's edition on Saturday, April 25, in Glyndon.
