Harvey Goolsby, Achsah O'Donovan and Daniel Colhoun's Bogey's Image was impressive in the Willowdale Steeplechase Stakes on Saturday, May 9, recording his first official stakes triumph of 2026.

Under rider Teddy Davies for trainer Joe Davies, Bogey's Image broke nicely and set the pace at the start of the three and a half miles over the Kennett Square, Pa., course. Going easily, the 9-year-old son of Imagining was passed by Storm Team early in the race, and by Uco Valley (Ire) going into the backstretch. But there was plenty left in the tank.

Taking command heading into the final turn, the chestnut gelding drew off handily down the stretch to win by nearly 14 lengths and complete the distance in a course record 7:10.60. He now boasts a record to 15-5-3-3 and $116,500 in earnings.

A first-time stakes winner last year when he cruised home in the My Lady's Manor, Bogey's Image got this year going with a win at the Elkridge-Harford Hunt Point-to-Point races at Atlanta Hall Farm in Monkton in April. The prep worked as he went into the My Lady's Manor to defend his title and rolled home a nearly nine-length winner. But Davies weighed out one pound under the assigned weight and they were disqualified to last.

Next came the Virginia Gold Cup Stakes at Great Meadow on May 2. Setting the pace early, he ducked inside a beacon on the first circuit and was pulled up after going off course. His third start was the charm.

Bogey's Image was bred by South Branch Equine and made his debut in November 2020. He ran twice in his breeder's colors over hurdles with trainer Sean McDermott before being purchased in the summer of 2021 by his current ownership.

McDermott sent him out for three more starts over National fences, counting a win at Shawan Downs and a close second in the Harry E. Harris Stakes at Far Hills that fall.

Bogey's Image was then transferred to Joe Davies for a timber career. A third-place finish at the 2022 Grand National was followed by a six-length maiden timber win on the Grand National card a year later. In 2024, Bogey's Image won the Western Run Plate at the Grand National and was third in the Virginia Gold Cup before finishing second in the Brown Advisory Timber Stakes that September. Not counting the disqualification and the off course, he's finished in the top three in his other eight timber starts.

Out of the Hurricane Run (Ire) mare Casablanca Lily (Ire), Bogey's Image is a half-brother to last year's Pennsylvania Hunt Cup winner Master Seville, a Pennsylvania-bred son of late Maryland sire Seville (Ger) trained by Mark Beecher. In his two sanctioned starts this year, Master Seville finished third in the Grand National Timber Stakes and was about 17 lengths in third behind Bogey's Image in the Willowdale.

Casablanca Lily's daughter Sharmin (by Mosler) was a four-time winner in 2025 on the flat and is entered in an allowance on the Preakness day undercard at Laurel. The mare's current 3-year-old, a Maryland-bred full brother to Bogey's Image, had a recorded work on May 9 but has yet to start.
