Engage dr7509

Engage's daughter La Resolana has marked a milestone two years in a row. One day shy of a year of becoming the first winner for the Northview Stallion Station sire, she is now his first stakes winner by making easy work in the Eleven North Handicap at Monmouth Park on Aug. 23.

Facing older runners, including odds-on favorite Summer's Comin, in the New Jersey restricted stakes, 3-year-old La Resolana went off the second choice in the field of seven. Aiming to remain undefeated this year, she came into her stakes debut on a three-race win streak.

Always in contention, she tracked the early leaders through an opening split :22.16, had the lead after a half mile in :45.09, and pulled clear to win by four and a quarter lengths over Summer's Comin while completing six furlongs in 1:10.02.

Owned and bred by Gerardo Franco and trained by Jose Lozano Sanchez, the chestnut filly won for the fifth time in seven career starts, and increased her earnings to $174,031. When she broke her maiden last Aug. 24, she scored by eight and a quarter lengths in a five and a half-furlong maiden special weight at Monmouth.

La Resolana is the first named foal for her dam Sweetest Yet, a stakes-placed $329,867-earner by Drosselmeyer. Year-younger full sister La Cayetana finished second in her debut on July 26 at Monmouth.

Engage is the Mid-Atlantic region's leading second-crop sire, and ranked in the top-20 nationally. In his first crop he is also represented by 2026 three-time stakes-placed Close the Gate, and 2025 stakes-placed Vita Mia.

A multiple graded stakes-winning sprinter by eight-time leading sire and sire of sires Into Mischief, Engage entered stud at Northview in Chesapeake City after earning $802,780 in 19 career starts, with five wins, five seconds and two thirds.

He was one of his sire's top juveniles in 2017 when winning two of three starts, topped by Belmont Park's Grade 3 Futurity at six furlongs. He finished first or second during a seven-race streak from 2 to 3 -- among the highlights at 3 a win in 1:09 and change in Belmont Park's six-furlong Gold Fever Stakes, and seconds in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens at Belmont, Grade 3 Bay Shore at Aqueduct, and Grade 3 Amsterdam at Saratoga.

At 4 Engage captured Keeneland's Grade 2 Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix, a Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" event for the 2019 Breeders' Cup Sprint, while defeating a field that included eventual Eclipse Award-winning sprinter Whitmore and Grade 1 winners Lexitonian, Hog Creek Hustle and Promises Fulfilled. Trained by Steve Asmussen, he finished fourth in that year's Breeders' Cup Sprint at Santa Anita (his only start on the West Coast) behind stablemate Mitole.

Out of the stakes-placed Speightstown mare Nefertiti, Engage represents the highly successful pedigree cross of Into Mischief with Speightstown mares, which to date has yielded nine black-type winners from 39 starters, including Grade 1-winning sprinters Mia Mischief and Mischevious Alex. Second dam Clearly a Queen was a three-time graded winner of $504,532.

Engage stood the 2026 breeding season for $2,500 live foal.
