Barak Farm's homebred Moneta Agenda rallied from last and survived a jockey's objection to break his maiden in the $125,000 Jamestown Stakes by a neck on Saturday, Aug. 29 at Colonial Downs.
Trained by Jose Corrales and ridden by Ismerio Villalobos, Moneta Agenda was slow out of the gate and settled at the rear against six Virginia- or Maryland-bred or -sired juvenile males to begin the five and a half-furlong turf contest. Into the stretch, the chestnut gelding launched a wide rally, and while advancing, ducked in and made contact with the fading Do the Right Thing. Once straightened, he closed to beat out Futile Gesture and Harewood, stopping the clock in 1:03.61 over the firm course. The longest shot on the board at 18-1, he improved his career record to 5-1-0-1 with $83,520 in the bank.
Out of the money in his first three starts, twice at Laurel Park and once at Delaware Park, while running short on the main track, the son of Known Agenda did better in his turf debut at Colonial Downs on Aug. 16.
"He's been running on the dirt but not running very well," Corrales told the Colonial Downs media after the stakes. "The owners were disappointed. I told them to run him on the grass and he ran a good third. I expected him to run today, but not that good. He won the race. He's got a future on the grass."
Moneta Agenda is the eighth winner from 10 starters produced by the multiple stakes-placed Max's Pal mare Bella Moneta and is a half-brother to the stakes-placed Big Bella Brown and multiple stakes-placed Beto. The last reported foal for Bella Moneta is an unnamed Maryland-bred yearling full-brother to Moneta Agenda.
