Slewperstitus rallied for her first stakes victory of the year, taking the $100,000 Weather Vane Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at six furlongs on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Laurel Park.

Under jockey Jevian Toledo, Nancy and Eric Rizer's homebred Great Notion filly trained by Robbie Bailes stalked the early leaders in fourth and then third as Just Philtored, who beat Slewperstitus in four of five prior meetings, and Embrace the Moment dueled for the early lead. Just Philtored held the lead through an opening quarter-mile in :22.84 and half-mile in :45.99.

Slewperstitus engaged the leaders at the quarter pole, took the lead at the three-sixteenths pole, and never looked back. Holding on through the stretch, she beat out Sneaky Good by two and a quarter lengths in 1:10.87 on the fast main track for her first open-company stakes victory.

With the win, Slewperstitus now has $352,380 in the bank, having hit the board in all 12 career starts, including a win in last year's Maryland Million Lassie Stakes and six stakes placings. Her official record is 12-4-7-1. This summer, she finished second in all three starts at Colonial Downs, coming into the Weather Vane off a second-place finish in a second-level allowance on Aug. 27. After finishing second by a nose to Irish Jig in the state-restricted Miss Disco on July 11, she ran second to Mashallah in the Tyson Gilpin on Aug. 1.

Slewperstitus is one of three winners from four starters produced by Slew of Bullets, a stakes-placed daughter of Slew City Slew. Slewperstitus has a yearling Virginia-bred full sister named Nancymaeormaynot.

Bailes told Laurel Park media that Slewperstitus is on target for the $100,000 Maryland Million Distaff Stakes at seven furlongs at Laurel on Oct. 24.
