Dolly Fisher's Keys Discount extended his stellar streak dating back to April of last year, winning his eighth straight, all stakes, and defending his title in the Brown Advisory Timber Stakes at three and one-eighth miles at Shawan Downs on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Trained by Jack Fisher and ridden by Jamie Bargary, the 7-year-old son of Medal Count sat fifth of six early and was able to find his way to second on the backstretch for the final circuit. The chart comments of his run to the finish: "[he] displayed efficient jumping, gained a several-length lead at the last fence, drew off in a mild hand ride." After catching early leader Animal Kingston, he cruised in nine and a quarter lengths on top while stopping the clock in 7:02.20. He's now had a win at Shawan Downs for a third consecutive year.

Keys Discount was making his first start since defending his title in the Virginia Gold Cup Stakes in May at Great Meadow. Before that outing, he ran away to a 34 1/2-length victory in the Middleburg Hunt Cup in April, the same race that began his win streak in 2025 and marked his first stakes triumph.

Keys Discount launched his career in a seven-furlong main track maiden race at Laurel in March 2022 for owner Gordie Keys, who purchased him as a yearling for $2,000 at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic fall sale. His best outing from four starts on the flat that summer was a second on the turf. By September he made his jump debut, racing over hurdles at Shawan Downs, where he battled for the lead before finishing second.

Attempts over hurdles in 2023 didn't pan out, and when he reappeared in 2024 it was for the Fishers. In his 11 starts since, all over timber, he has nine wins and a third. His only non-finish was when he lost his rider in the Genesee Valley Hunt Cup in October 2024. With his recent victory, the 2025 Maryland-bred champion steeplechaser's career record now sits at 19-9-2-1 with $264,216 in the bank.

Keys Discount is the last of 10 foals, all winners, out of the unraced Rizzi mare Divertimento. One of two foals Bryan Minnich bred out of the mare, he was born at Anchor and Hope Farm in Port Deposit, where his dam was bred back to Holy Boss.
