The sixth annual listing of stallions based on their progeny’s durability and soundness has been released by The Jockey Club and Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation.

Developed by the Durability Committee of the Welfare and Safety of the Racehorse Summits, the aim is to highlight stallions who are commercially viable and produce progeny statistics which would tend to indicate above average performance in two areas - average number of starts per starter and percentage of foals which get to the races.

Ranked among the top 10 national stallions on the “Sires by Lifetime Starts per Starter” are three standing in Maryland -

Not For Love (sixth, Northview Stallion Station, Chesapeake City),

Outflanker (eighth, Shamrock Farm, Woodbine) and

Petionville (10th, Murmur Farm, Darlington).

Not For Love’s runners have an average of 21.70 starts; Outflanker 21.34 and Petionville 20.93.

Petionville tops the nation's stallions by “Lifetime Percentage of Foals of Racing Age Started” - 85.78 percent of his foals have raced. Not For Love ranks eighth (82.41 percent).

To qualify for the lists, a stallion must have ranked within the first 200 sires by progeny earnings for the calendar year 2013. This assures a modicum of success and relevance to the commercial breeding and sales market.
