Aloha West rallies for thrilling Breeders’ Cup Sprint-G1 victory

Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ late-running Aloha West delivered an epic performance in getting his first stakes win in the $2,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Sprint-G1 at Del Mar on Saturday, Nov. 6. The 4-year-old son of Hard Spun surged down the stretch and caught Dr. Schivel at the wire to prevail by the slimmest of noses on the world’s biggest stage.

Maryland-breds make history at 2021 Breeders’ Cup World Championships

Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ Aloha West and Korea Racing Authority’s Knicks Go, the only two Maryland-bred contenders at this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships, held at Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, Calif., made history Saturday, Nov. 6, as they each won their races to mark the first time two Maryland-breds won on the same Breeders’ Cup card.

Welcome to the Team: Erin Swope

The Maryland Horse Breeders Association is excited to introduce Erin Swope, one of two new full-time staff members, who has taken on the role of bookkeeper in our finance department. Erin, a 23-year-old native of Westminster, graduated in December 2020 from Towson University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in finance. On top of her time in the MHBA office, she spends her mornings at Pimlico exercising racehorses for trainer Mary Eppler.

Welcome to the Team: Becky Remsberg

Along with Erin, the MHBA is proud to introduce Becky Remsberg, another new full-time staff member, who has been hired as our administrative assistant and public outreach coordinator. Becky, a 24-year-old native of Fallston, received her associate’s degree in agricultural business management from the Institute of Applied Agriculture at the University of Maryland, College Park in 2017 and recently graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science and Technology.

Fans welcomed back for 36th Annual Jim McKay Maryland Million Day

After attendance was limited last year due to Covid-19 restrictions, the 36th annual Maryland Million Day reflected a return to normalcy as fans were welcomed back for an exciting day of racing on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Laurel Park, where Maryland-breds captured 10 of the 12 races.
