Maryland Thoroughbred Industry Renaissance Awards to be presented virtually, beginning Feb. 28

Baltimore, Md.—The fifth annual Renaissance Awards, a cooperative effort between the Maryland Horse Breeders Association, Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and Maryland Jockey Club, will be celebrated virtually this year as the top Maryland owner, trainer and jockey, Maryland stallion, broodmare and breeder, as well as the champion Maryland-breds of 2021 will be presented online next week. Special awards will be presented to Pimlico and Laurel Backstretch Employees of the Year.

New awards for steeplechase horses in Maryland

The Maryland Horse Breeders Association (MHBA) Board of Directors recently voted unanimously to begin an award program for Breeder, Owner and Stallion bonuses for registered Maryland-breds at sanctioned steeplechase race meets in Maryland. The MHBA will pay these bonus awards for those participants that qualify.

Cordmaker pays tribute to breeder with Robert T. Manfuso Stakes victory

Hillwood Stable’s Cordmaker made the final start of his 6-year-old season count as he stormed his way down the center of the track to win the inaugural running of the $100,000 Robert T. Manfuso Stakes, for 3-year-olds and up, by three and a half lengths over Workin On a Dream at Laurel Park on Saturday, Dec. 26.

Fasig-Tipton’s Midlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training sale, which saw records fall across the board, featured a strong group of Maryland-breds, with four selling for six figures over the two-day sale held Monday and Tuesday, May 23 and 24, in Timonium.
