The Geisha Stakes

The 41st running of the Geisha Stakes will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Laurel Park. Nine fillies and mares have been nominated to the one-mile main track test worth $100,000 for Maryland-bred and sired fillies, or $75,000 for Maryland-bred runners.

2013 Report of Mares bred for Maryland stallions

The release of the Jockey Club’s Report of Mares Bred (RMB) statistics for the 2013 breeding season included the top 10 states and provinces by number of mares reported bred. While Maryland did not appear in the top 10, stallions in the state in 2013 bred more mares than in the previous year. Of the top 10 states, only Kentucky, Oklahoma and Texas showed increases.

Eighttofasttocatch leads Maryland-bred winners on 28th Maryland Million Day

Sylvia E. Heft’s Eighttofasttocatch took his second Maryland Million Classic in three years with a gate-to-wire effort under Forest Boyce in the $150,000 mile and an eighth stakes. Foyle springs upset in International Gold Cup Timber Stakes

Merriefield Farm’s Foyle defied his 11-1 betting odds and won the $50,000 International Gold Cup by one length at Great Meadow Race Course in The Plains, Va., on Saturday, Oct. 19. Kieran Norris was in the saddle for trainer Bruce Fenwick.

A total of 118 pre-entries, barring late mail or emails after regular business hours on closing day, Thursday, Oct. 17, were named to the nine stakes races which comprise the 2013 Jim McKay Maryland Million. The 28th running of the event will take place at Laurel Park next Saturday, Oct. 19. First post is 12:15 p.m.
