Night Officer, a half-brother to top sprinter Delaunay, recorded his first stakes win when rallying for a neck victory in Belmont Park’s $85,000 Around the Cape Stakes on Thursday, May 16. Sent off as the 4-1 second choice in the field of seven, the 5-year-old bay horse zipped six furlongs over the inner turf course in 1:07.92.

Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May juvenile sale starts strong

The first day of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training sale on Monday, May 20 in Timonium showed gains over last year’s opening day, with 121 juveniles selling for $7,235,000, an average of $59,793 (last year’s first day saw an average of $47,067). The median rose from $27,000 to $32,000 and the buy-back rate dropped to 17.7 percent.
